Meathaus Week on Vulture: Read a Complete Story by Zohar Lazar

The comics collective Meathaus was formed in 2000 by a group of School of Visual Arts students, and its members have already gone on to great success — drawing for titles like Fables, Demo, and Omega the Unknown. Members include Brandon Graham (King City), Ross Campbell (Water Baby), and Dash Shaw (who's profiled in this week's magazine for Bottomless Belly Button). So when Meathaus announced their first full-color anthology, we got pretty excited — so excited that we couldn't choose just one of the outstanding stories from this awesome book.

That's why we're declaring this week Meathaus Week on Vulture. We're printing three full stories from the anthology — one of the best comics of the year.

Today: "Empire Service," a grimly funny New York story from Zohar Lazar, an illustrator whose work has appeared in GQ, The New Yorker, Entertainment Weekly, and on They Might Be Giants CDs.

Meathaus: S.O.S. will be published by Nerdcore in July.

UNKLE "Reinterpret" X-Files Theme For New Movie

UNKLE have two tracks appearing in the forthcoming new X-Files movie, including the band's reworking of the theme tune.

The first of the songs is an original piece called 'Broken' that was hand-picked by series creator Chris Carter after he was sent the piece from a music supervisor at 20th Century Fox.

Carter instantly fell in love with the song, that first appeared on the 2007 UNKLE album 'War Stories', and will use it for the end credits say reports.

Also used on the end credits is a 'reinterpretation' of the X-Files theme which Carter personally asked UNKLE chief James Lavelle to create, after discovering he was a huge fan of the popular sci-fi TV series.

Mark Ronson - Ronsons Surreal Duran Duran Experience

Superproducer MARK RONSON was overwhelmed when he took to the stage with his boyhood heroes DURAN DURAN for a unique collaboration in France on Wednesday (02Jul08) - calling the experience utterly "surreal".

Ronson joined forces with the Rio hitmakers for the Smirnoff Experience - an intimate one-off show in Paris, France. The DJ/producer re-worked the band's classic tracks in front of a delighted crowd including Hollywood actress Eva Mendes and fashion designer John Galliano.

And the Grammy-winner admits he was initially terrified about joining the group on stage - as he has idolised the British band since he was a child.

He tells Wenn, "I was really f**king nervous. Duran Duran are one of my favourite bands. This has to be one of the highlights in life for me. It's pretty f**king surreal."

Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon was also delighted with Ronson's performance, he adds, "He had a lot of crazy ideas which all seemed to work out. So many, in fact, that what was supposed to be a thirty-minute set turned out to be an hour and a half! It was really magical!"
